ESPAÑOL: tomé estas tristes fotos a principios de año. Las imagenes transmiten muchísimas sensaciones, pero fundamentalmente nos cargan de una inmensa empatía, compasión y misericordia para con el sufriente animal. La Humanidad puede desplegar niveles absurdos de crueldad e ignorancia. Es hora de reconsiderar nuestra relación con todo lo viviente. Todo animal es nuestro hermano, y la Tierra como un todo actúa casi cual Madre para con sus hijos. No al egoísmo. No a nuestro lado oscuro.

As Humanity, our cruelty can reach absurd levels. Its time to reconsider our relationship with the entire biosphere. Tomé estas fotografías muy cerca de mi casa, durante una corta caminata veraniega. No fue nada planeado: simplemente uno de esos regalos gratuitos que brinda la vida. Como canta Pedro Guerra, “algo bueno que no pides y se da” (te comparto la canción al pie de este post). Unos días después, un truco del inconsciente me llevo a asociar la foto con la inmortal obra de Van Gogh “Almendros en Flor“, mostrada a su vez más abajo. Me recordó también al estilizado arte japonés cuando retrata árboles floridos, particularmente los cerezos (conocido como sakura).
Pero, más allá de la reminiscencia puramente artística o cultural, me transmite una inmensa armonía. La mezcla de colores cálidos, las maderas y los azules está perfectamente balanceada. La composición es sobria. Estas imagenes brindan paz. Serenidad. Casi sin querer se dibuja en el rostro una sonrisa. Citando de nuevo al mencionado cantautor español: “cielo limpio, cielo azul / como todo si estás tu…“.
Es hermoso vivir.

I took these shots quite close to my home, during a short summer walk. Some days after the impromptu session – which was nothing but one of those wonderful gifts that life freely gives us – I noticed the resemblance to Van Gogh´s blossom series, particularly the “Almond Blossoms” famous painting, shown above. It also reminded me of the stylized japanese art when portraying blossoming trees, particularly cherry tree depictions (known as sakura).
Still, and beyond cultural & artistic references, the image transmits intense harmony. The color mix, including the warm tones, the wooden ones and the blue palette has a perfect balance. The composition is sober. These shots convey peace. Serenity. Almost without noticing, a smile appears in your face.
It is good to be alive.

Podríamos racionalizarlo y hablar de “pareidolia”, ese curioso engaño que nos hace la mente el cual nos hace ver imágenes donde solo hay formas vagas; como cuando vemos legiones de figuras en las nubes. Podríamos también restarle toda importancia: es tan solo una mancha en la puerta del refrigerador. Pero también podemos dejar que gane el corazón. He decidido entonces que es un regalo. Desde el reino de la imaginación, mis pequeñas (las únicas mensajeras capaces de tal proeza) me han traído una sorpresa la cual ahora les comparto: nada menos que un clásico ser mitológico, un Pegaso. Este es un blanco caballo alado, dibujado con manos diminutas usando como tinta la leche de su biberón. Por lienzo, el más mundano de los electrodomésticos. Por estudio, la cocina. ¿Qué inspira al artista? Quizás el mismo duende que inspiró a los pintores de bisontes en aquellas cavernas prehistóricas. Quizás.
Todo caso, no lo cambio por un Pollock. Este sí que me pone a soñar…

We could rationalize and speak about “pareidolia”, that curious trick our minds play on us, making us see images where there are only but vague shapes. You know, like when we see legions of figures in the clouds. We could also withdraw any importance out of it: its just a splash in the door of the fridge. But we can also grant victory to the heart. I have decided then that it is a gift. From the kingdom of the imagination, my little ones (the sole messenger up to the task) have brought me a surprise which I now share with you. Nothing less but a classical mythological animal, a Pegasus. This winged, white horse is painted with tiny hands using as ink the very milk of the bottle. As canvas, the door of the fridge. Artist studio? The kitchen. What inspired the artist? Perhaps the same spirit that haunted those who painted a bison in the caves. Perhaps.
In any case, I don´t trade it for a Pollock: this one really puts me to dream and fly…
