ENGLISH: ranging between refreshing and passionate, the wild combination of grays, blacks, gold and red of this sunset captured my lens. In the top image, the extended lens aperture technique allowed the “flow” feeling of the tide. In the immediately above scene, the wet sand reflects the sunset. Warmth. Feelings. Change.

ESPAÑOL (ENGLISH TEXT BELOW): tomé esta fotografía, de la cual les comparto abajo dos versiones adicionales editadas digitalmente, durante un reciente “escape” a uno de los tantos y tantos fantásticos lugares a visitar en mi país. Las impresionantes dimensiones del árbol, la planta que lo acompaña en su caminata al cielo, la jungla como telón de fondo… todo me hizo pensar, evocándome una especie de iglesia, de catedral verde para un tipo más natural de culto… uno mucho pero mucho más antiguo, sabio y profundo que cualquiera seguido por nuestra especie.

ENGLISH: this photo, for which I share two additional digitally-edited versions, was shot during a recent “escape” to one of the utterly fantastic spots to visit in my homeland. The sheer, massive size of the tree, the plants that partner with it in the journey to the skies, the entire jungle context… all of it made me think, wondering about some sort of a church, of a green cathedral for a more natural type of cult… one that is much, much more ancient & wise than any followed by us as a species.

ESPAÑOL: tomé estas tristes fotos a principios de año. Las imagenes transmiten muchísimas sensaciones, pero fundamentalmente nos cargan de una inmensa empatía, compasión y misericordia para con el sufriente animal. La Humanidad puede desplegar niveles absurdos de crueldad e ignorancia. Es hora de reconsiderar nuestra relación con todo lo viviente. Todo animal es nuestro hermano, y la Tierra como un todo actúa casi cual Madre para con sus hijos. No al egoísmo. No a nuestro lado oscuro.

ENGLISH: I took these sad photographs recently. The images convey a bundle of feelings, including an immense empathy, true commiseration with the poor animal. As Humanity, our cruelty can reach absurd levels. Its time to reconsider our relationship with the entire biosphere. We are ignoring our brotherhood ties to all living things, and to the Earth as a whole. Say no to egotism. Say no to our dark side.

Tomé estas fotografías muy cerca de mi casa, durante una corta caminata veraniega. No fue nada planeado: simplemente uno de esos regalos gratuitos que brinda la vida. Como canta Pedro Guerra, “algo bueno que no pides y se da” (te comparto la canción al pie de este post). Unos días después, un truco del inconsciente me llevo a asociar la foto con la inmortal obra de Van Gogh “Almendros en Flor“, mostrada a su vez más abajo. Me recordó también al estilizado arte japonés cuando retrata árboles floridos, particularmente los cerezos (conocido como sakura).
Pero, más allá de la reminiscencia puramente artística o cultural, me transmite una inmensa armonía. La mezcla de colores cálidos, las maderas y los azules está perfectamente balanceada. La composición es sobria. Estas imagenes brindan paz. Serenidad. Casi sin querer se dibuja en el rostro una sonrisa. Citando de nuevo al mencionado cantautor español: “cielo limpio, cielo azul / como todo si estás tu…“.
Es hermoso vivir.

ENGLISH VERSION / VERSION EN ESPAÑOL MÁS ARRIBA
I took these shots quite close to my home, during a short summer walk. Some days after the impromptu session – which was nothing but one of those wonderful gifts that life freely gives us – I noticed the resemblance to Van Gogh´s blossom series, particularly the “Almond Blossoms” famous painting, shown above. It also reminded me of the stylized japanese art when portraying blossoming trees, particularly cherry tree depictions (known as sakura).
Still, and beyond cultural & artistic references, the image transmits intense harmony. The color mix, including the warm tones, the wooden ones and the blue palette has a perfect balance. The composition is sober. These shots convey peace. Serenity. Almost without noticing, a smile appears in your face.
It is good to be alive.
